As women we can feel constricted by our appearance. Societal standards of beauty infiltrate our experience. Especially in the age of the internet we can be reluctant to present a less than perfect image of ourselves to the world. Through asking her subjects to distort their faces and be presented to the world, Fraser causes them and the viewer to question self-image and the deeply felt repercussions of superficial expectations of beauty. The series of paintings continues Fraser’s exploration into the nature of flesh.
